These hardwood versions of the real swords (Katana, Wakizashi and Tanto) are excellent for practice and demonstrations. Weighted to resemble a usable sword they remove the danger of a live weapon. Traditionally, bokken were used instead of real swords in fencing exercises within the dojo, as a weapon to be used during tournaments or contests, as well as the symbol of the real sword during examinations. Often they were used by many for sword training simply due to their inexpensiveness atop of their greater safety. Nevertheless, when used expertly in battle or competition they could be deadly, and samurai would often keep a bokken nearby while they slept so intruders could be captured without spilling blood within the house. |n||n|
